How to Be More Involved In Your Healthcare

At UnityPoint Health, we want to you to feel prepared and confident as you are planning for an upcoming visit with us. It’s important to us that you feel comfortable asking our team members questions to understand your health so that we can support you in improving your health and well-being. Read our “Ask Me 3” tips below to get started.

Ask Me 3

Ask Me 3 promotes simple, but essential, questions you should ask your medical team in health care interactions. These questions also help build an effective partnership between patients and their health care team, and clarify misunderstandings about medical needs and treatment. Ask Me 3 helps patients and providers initiate communication and improve understanding.

  1. What is my main problem?
  2. What do I need to do?
  3. Why is it important for me to do this?

Tangible Impact

  • Patients were more likely to have questions and feel comfortable communicating with their physicians.
  • Hospitals and providers received noticeable improvements in patient satisfaction.
  • Ask Me 3 could be embedded into organizational strategies and routines with relative ease.
